Britain in Bloom
Perth 21^st September 2006

Newport  achieved a coveted Silver Gilt Award in the national Britain in Bloom awards held in Perth on 21^st September.  Newport ’s judges (whom many of you met) specifically told us that as first time entrants we would be likely to get a Bronze or if we were very lucky, a Silver Award.  So the receiving committee were thrilled that all of the hard work done by our volunteers and sponsors over the last twelve months has created such a fantastic achievement.  Well done to everyone and thank you for your help.

Newport had four members of our Heart of England in Bloom committee at Birmingham Cathedral recently, listening with bated breath at the Celebratory Awards, when rewards were handed out for our regional area.

The town did extremely well and we are delighted that we have now gained our third GOLD award.   Barrie Pierce, one of the committee members, won a prestigious judges personal award, something only given to one person each year and Elkington Close, our group dwelling scheme, received a discretionary award certificate of merit.  

Congratulations to our volunteers and sponsors for all their hard work in helping Newport this year.  The town looks superb and many people have complimented members of the committee in the last few months and also written to the local newspaper expressing their admiration.
